Welcome to the Conservation Trust of Brooksville, Castine and Penobscot. We are a non-profit, all volunteer private land protection organization working in the East Penobscot Bay region. Since 1978 the Trust has offered a private sector alternative to government protection of hundreds of acres of wild lands in Brooksville, Castine and Penobscot. The Conservation Trust offers land owners the opportunity to voluntarily protect their land through tailor made conservation easements, acceptance of gifts and bequests of land, and purchase of land through bargain sales.
With rising land values and relatively undeveloped coastline, the Blue Hill peninsula faces some of the most intense development pressure on the East Coast. The purpose of The Conservation Trust is to encourage and promote for the benefit of the general public the conservation of natural resources in the East Penobscot Bay region. Natural resources that are under threat from rampant development include water, plant and animal life (including sufficient habitat) and land with significant scenic, agricultural, natural and historic value. We see it as essential to conserve for future generations the area’s views and open space, farmland, pastures and traditional hunting and fishing grounds. These attributes are essential to the unique character of the East Penobscot Bay region.
As a membership organization, the Trust depends on the participation of the residents of Brooksville, Castine and Penobscot for financial support, committee and board participation, stewardship volunteers and general good will. Without the efforts of local people the Trust would cease to exist.
